Family Run Farm in Hinckley, MN
Fire Oak Farm is located in an area SW of Hinckley that was missed by the flames of the Great Hinckley Fire. The acorns shed by those ancient oaks contribute to the rich flavor of our lamb.
We are a family-run farm with over 30 years experience raising sheep. The primary farmer is Ben Wiener, a life-time Pine County resident and military veteran. Currently, we raise the easy-care polled Wiltshire breed. We sell meat lambs and breeding stock. Contact us for availability of cuts of lamb.
Polled Wiltshire sheep are a wool-shedding, prime lamb breed. These easy care sheep lamb on pasture and live on pasture for all of their lives. The Wiltshire horn breed originated in England and was developed in Australia and New Zealand as a polled breed. These sheep shed their wool in late spring and are grown primarily for meat with great flavor.
When winter comes, and grass isn't available, these sheep are fed hay from Ben's uncle who operates a century farm a few miles away. The sheep are supplemented with oats just before breeding and just before lambing. These are not feed-lot lambs by any means. These sheep are long-lived and ewes regularly have twins and even triplets.
The home farm is small so we rent nearby acreages to graze the sheep, with the help of our faithful livestock guardian dogs. Rotational grazing is used to full advantage to make the most of the pasture available to us.
